Question

My phone connects to the head unit perfectly and I can stream music, but callers can't hear a word I'm saying. I am getting a persistent B142F code on my scan tool indicating an open circuit for the microphone. It suddenly stopped working after a period of heavy rain, though I don't see any obvious leaks.

The issue ended up being a failed microphone element inside the overhead console assembly due to a small leak in the sunroof seal. I replaced the microphone module (Part #68249278AA) which cost about $45 from the dealer. After popping out the trim and swapping the component, the B142F code cleared immediately and calls are crystal clear again. I also cleared the sunroof drain tubes with compressed air to prevent it from happening again.

Check the overhead console wiring. These microphones are usually built into the map light assembly, and if the connector pins get loose from vibration, it will trigger that open circuit code.

I've seen cases where the Bluetooth module inside the radio itself fails on the input side, but you should definitely ohm out the harness from the radio to the headliner first to rule out a broken wire.

Since you mentioned rain, check for moisture around the A-pillar. If water gets in from the sunroof drains, it can corrode the inline connector located behind the kick panel which carries the mic signal.
