2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee - P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire / Ticking Noise

My 2019 Jeep has 62,000 miles and just started making a rhythmic ticking sound on the driver's side of the engine. Shortly after the noise started, the Check Engine Light came on for a P0302.

I swapped the coil and the plug with cylinder 4, but the misfire stayed on cylinder 2. The tick follows engine RPM. I’m worried about the notorious valvetrain issues these Pentastars have, but I thought they fixed that after 2014?

✅ Confirmed fix: Disassembled the left cylinder head's valvetrain and found the needle bearings in the intake rocker arm for cylinder 2 had collapsed. This caused the roller to 'flat spot' and it started eating the camshaft lobe. Replaced the rocker arm and the intake camshaft. Noise is gone and misfire is resolved.

Check your fuel injector on cylinder 2. Sometimes a failing injector solonoid can make a very loud clicking sound that mimics a mechanical tick, and obviously it would cause a misfire. Use a stethoscope to see if the noise is coming from the rail or under the valve cover.
