Paccar MX-13 Forced Regen Starts Then Aborts - Code P1496 and P1495

Question

My 2018 Kenworth T680 keeps failing its parked regeneration after about 10 minutes. The RPMs ramp up normally, but then it just drops back to idle and throws a derate warning on the dash. I am worried I am going to get stuck on the side of the road with a full soot load.

The issue was a failed Hydrocarbon Doser Valve (7th injector) solenoid. While the tip was clean, the internal coil was failing when it got hot, stopping fuel flow to the exhaust stream. I replaced the doser valve (Part #2102173PE) and the fuel supply line which was about 40% restricted with carbon. After the swap, I performed a forced regen via DAVIE software and it completed in 35 minutes with no further codes. Total part cost was around $550.

Check your hydrocarbon doser fuel line pressure. If the line is clogged or the fuel shutoff valve is sticking, you won't get enough fuel to the DOC to maintain the high temperatures required for a full regen cycle.

I had this exact issue on a fleet truck last week. It turned out to be the Turbo Speed Sensor giving erratic readings once the engine got hot, which triggered a safety shut down of the regen process even though the exhaust temps looked okay.

You need to look at the Delta P sensor readings during the attempt. If the pressure across the DPF is too high right at the start, the ECM might kill the process to prevent a thermal event if it thinks the filter is cracked or completely plugged.
