2014 Hino 268 - P2002 Code - Low Efficiency DPF

Question

My Hino box truck is throwing a P2002 code. It feels sluggish and the fuel mileage has tanked lately. We do a lot of city driving and stop-and-go deliveries.

The local dealer says I need a new DPF, but the truck only has 140k miles on it. I tried running it on the highway for 2 hours to see if it would clear itself out, but the light stayed on. Is there anything else that causes this code on these JO8 engines?

Take a look at the EGR valve. If it's stuck partially open, you're constantly dumping excess soot into the DPF, which will overwhelm the system and trigger the P2002 efficiency code.

✅ Confirmed fix: On these Hinos, the Burner Air Control Valve often fails or gets restricted. It wasn't allowing enough air for a hot enough combustion during regen, leading to soot loading. Replaced the burner air pump and valve, and the code cleared after a successful burn.
