2015 Jaguar XF P0481 - Radiator Fan 2 Always On or Failing to Kick In

My 2015 Jaguar XF 3.0L is throwing a P0481 code and the cooling fans are acting erratic. Sometimes the second fan won't spin at all during traffic, and other times it stays on full blast for 10 minutes after I turn the car off. I am worried about it overheating because the needle is starting to creep past the middle point.

The issue was a corroded pin in the Cooling Fan Control Module connector (Part # C2Z23432). Upon closer inspection, the blue/green signal wire had corroded internally about 3 inches back from the plug. I spliced in a new section of 14-gauge wire, cleaned the pins with electronic cleaner, and applied dielectric grease. The fan now cycles correctly and the P0481 code has cleared. Total cost was about $15 for the wiring supplies and 2 hours of labor.

Since you already checked the fuses, use a multimeter to check for 12V power and a ground at the fan motor connector. If you have power and ground but the fan isn't responding to a bidirectional tool command, the fan control module Integrated into the fan shroud is likely dead.

You should check the wiring harness that runs along the lower radiator support. These cars are known for the wiring rubbing against the frame rail, which can short out the PWM signal wire to the fan control module.

Does your A/C still blow cold? Usually, if Fan 2 is dead, your high-side pressures will spike and the A/C compressor will cut out. If the A/C works fine, you might just have a sensor issue rather than a fan motor failure.
