2018 Toyota Camry - Random No-Start / Long Crank - No Codes

Having an intermittent starting issue with my 2018 Camry. About 3 out of 10 times, I'll go to start it and it will just crank and crank but won't fire. If I turn it off and try again, it usually starts right up on the second attempt. Occasionally, it will start on the first try but it's a very 'long' crank.

The battery is less than a year old and the starter sounds strong, so I don't think it's an electrical/voltage drop issue. There are no warning lights on the dash and no stored codes in the computer. It seems more common after the car has been sitting for a few hours, but once it's running, it drives perfectly fine with no stumbling or hesitation.

✅ Confirmed fix: This is a known issue covered under a safety recall for the low-pressure fuel pump (Toyota Recall 20TB02). The impeller in the fuel pump was prone to deforming, leading to a loss of prime in the fuel lines after the car sits.

I took it to the dealer and they replaced the fuel pump assembly inside the gas tank. Since the replacement, it has fired up instantly every single time. If your VIN is included, this is a free repair at any Toyota dealership.

It sounds like you might have a leaking fuel injector that is bleeding off rail pressure while the car is off. This 'floods' one cylinder and starves the rest until the pump can rebuild pressure. Try turning the key to 'On' for 5 seconds before cranking to let the pump prime. If it starts better that way, it's definitely a fuel pressure retention issue.
