2017 Honda Accord - P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor Intermittent

My 2017 Accord has started acting up. It takes a few extra seconds to start in the morning, and twice now it has just died while I was waiting at a red light. After it stalls, it takes a couple of tries to get it to fire back up.

The code P0341 (Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance) keep popping up. I replaced the sensor with one from the local parts store, but the problem is still there. I'm starting to hear a slight rattling noise from the passenger side of the engine on cold starts. Is it possible the new sensor is just a dud?

✅ Confirmed fix: The timing chain was stretched. These 2.4L engines are sensitive to oil levels; if they run low, the chain tensioner doesn't have enough pressure and the chain 'whips,' causing it to stretch over time.

When the chain stretches, the correlation between the cam and crank sensors goes out of sync, triggering P0341. I had to replace the timing chain, the tensioner, and the guides. I also replaced the VTC actuator while I was in there since it was responsible for the rattle. The car starts instantly now and no more stalling.

On these K24 engines, a P0341 is rarely a bad sensor. It's usually the VTC actuator failing to lock into position or a stretched timing chain. The 'rattle' you hear on cold starts is a dead giveaway for the VTC actuator being worn out internally.
