Toyota Tundra P1350 Bank 2 VVT Sensor Fault - Rough Idle and Stalling

Question

My 2007 Tundra is throwing a P1350 code and running like garbage when coming to a stop. It starts fine, but as soon as the engine warms up, the idle drops low and it feels like it wants to stall. I noticed some slight clattering from the driver side head under load.

The issue was a failed VVT Oil Control Valve (OCV) on Bank 2. I pulled the solenoid and it was stuck halfway open due to internal electrical failure. I replaced it with an OEM Denso unit (Part #15340-0F010) which cost about $95. After clearing the codes and performing a zero-point calibration on the idle, the truck runs perfectly and the P1350 has not returned in over 500 miles.

P1350 is specifically for the Bank 2 circuit. Use a multimeter to check for 5V reference and ground at the sensor connector. Also, inspect the wiring harness where it passes near the fuel rail, as rodents love to chew the soy-based insulation on these Toyotas.

Since you swapped sensors and the code stayed, the sensor itself is fine. It is likely the VVT solenoid on the driver's side (Bank 2) sticking in the advanced position. Try cleaning the solenoid with brake cleaner and cycling it with a 12V battery to see if the plunger moves freely.

You should check the VVT solenoid (Oil Control Valve) filter screens. On these high mileage 2UZ engines, the tiny mesh screens can get clogged with sludge, preventing enough oil pressure from reaching the actuator even if your oil level is fine.
