Toyota Tundra P1350 Bank 2 VVT Sensor Issue - Rough Idle After Cold Start

My 2006 Tundra is throwing a P1350 code and running rough once it comes down from a high idle. It feels like it wants to stall at stoplights, and I can hear a slight rattling noise from the driver side head. The check engine light stays on even after clearing it with a cheap scanner.

The issue was a failed Bank 2 VVT Solenoid (Oil Control Valve). I tested the resistance and it was wide open. I replaced it with a Genuine Toyota part (P/N 15330-0F010) which cost about $120. While I was in there, I cleaned the OCV filter screen which had some varnish buildup. After a 20-minute drive cycle, the monitors cleared and the idle is perfectly smooth again.

You should check the resistances on the VVT solenoid for Bank 2. If the internal coil is failing when it gets hot, it will cause the P1350 logic to trigger in the ECU. Also, make sure you are using a high-quality 5W-30 oil; these VVT-i systems are very sensitive to sludge.

P1350 is specifically for the Bank 2 VVT sensor circuit. Inspect the wiring harness near the back of the cylinder head. Rodents love to chew the insulation on these older Tundras, and a short to ground will cause that exact code.

Pull the OCV (Oil Control Valve) filter screen located behind the 14mm hex plug on the head. If that screen is clogged with debris, the cam phaser won't get enough pressure to retard the timing correctly, which can sometimes throw circuit-related logic codes.
