2015 Fiat 500 Abarth - Dash Odometer Flashing and U1733 Node Error

My odometer started flashing every time I start the car, and the hands-free buttons on the steering wheel have stopped responding entirely. I tried to pair my phone but the Blue&Me menu doesn't even appear on the cluster anymore. I hooked up my scanner and pulled code U1733 stating it lost communication with the convergence node.

The issue was a completely dead Blue&Me Convergence Telematics Node located behind the rear quarter panel. I sourced a used unit with part number 51944597 for $120. After installing it, I had to use MultiECUScan and an ELM327 interface to run the 'Proxi Alignment' procedure; this is mandatory to stop the odometer from flashing and to sync the new module to the BCM. System is now fully functional and the dash is back to normal.

A flashing odometer on a Fiat usually indicates a Proxi Alignment failure. Because the CAN bus can't see the Blue&Me module, it triggers the flashing to let you know the vehicle configuration doesn't match the hardware present.

The Blue&Me modules are notorious for internal board failure due to heat. Before replacing it, try to perform a Proxi Alignment using MultiECUScan to see if the body control module can re-detect the node on the network.

Check the USB port in the glovebox or center console. If there is a short in that port or a bad cable plugged in, it can sometimes pull down the convergence node and cause it to go offline.
