Fiat 500 Abarth - Odometer flashing and U1733 error code on scanner

Question

My 2013 Abarth has a flashing odometer and the Bluetooth module is no longer connecting to my phone. I plugged in my scanner and it is throwing a U1733 code saying it lost communication with the Convergency Node. Steering wheel buttons are also unresponsive.

The Blue&Me module (Convergency Node) had a total internal failure. I replaced the module with a used unit from eBay, part number 51944597. After installation, the odometer was still flashing, so I had to use a MultiEcuScan interface to perform a Proxi Alignment procedure. Once the alignment finished successfully, the flashing stopped, the U1733 code cleared, and the steering wheel buttons started working again.

Check the wiring harness behind the glovebox where the module is located. Moisture can sometimes get in there and corrode the pins on the 32-pin connector, causing the U1733 communication drop.

Before replacing parts, try to perform a Proxy Alignment using MultiEcuScan. If the module is just glitched, the alignment will sync the VIN and the Proxi configuration to stop the flashing, but if the module is dead, the alignment will fail.

The flashing odometer is a Fiat CAN-bus indication that a node on the network is missing or not configured correctly. If you can't access the Blue&Me module, it likely has internal hardware failure which is very common on these Magneti Marelli units.
