2014 International ProStar - MaxxForce 13 - Erratic Idle and Stalling

Question

My MaxxForce 13 is driving me crazy. It runs fine at highway speeds, but as soon as I exit the ramp and come to a stop, the idle dips and it sometimes just dies. If I keep my foot on the throttle slightly, it stays running.

I suspected the ICP (Injection Control Pressure) sensor since I'm seeing SPN 164. I've heard these engines have high-pressure oil pump issues, but I'm hoping it's something simpler. Fuel filters were just changed.

✅ Confirmed fix: The high-pressure oil pump (HPOP) internal check valve was failing, but the immediate cause was the ETV (Exhaust Throttle Valve) sticking shut at idle, choking the engine. The combination of low oil pressure at hot idle and the sticking ETV caused the stall. Replaced the ETV and the engine now idles perfectly.

Check for air in the fuel system. Use a clear hose on the return line. If you see bubbles, you're sucking air from a cracked pickup tube or a loose fitting on the primary filter housing.
