Cruise Control won't engage on Cascadia - Fault P0565

Question

Running down the interstate and my cruise control suddenly kicked off and won't turn back on. The dash light for cruise doesn't even illuminate when I hit the rocker switch. I am seeing an active P0565 code in the bulkhead module and I can't clear it.

Found the issue was a broken wire in the steering column harness right where it pivots for the tilt/telescope function. The wire for the cruise ON signal (Pin A on the steering wheel clock spring connector) had frayed and was grounding out against the column bracket. Repaired the wire with a heat-shrink butt connector and secured the harness with more slack to prevent it from pulling again. Cost was just an hour of shop time and some wire. Code went inactive immediately and cruise is working perfectly now.

Grab a multimeter and check for 5V reference at the switch connector. Since you swapped the switch and it didn't help, you likely have a chafed wire in the harness behind the center dash panel or a bad ground at the bus bar.

Check your clutch pedal return spring if you have a manual. If the pedal vibrates or hangs down just 1/4 inch, it trips the clutch switch and kills the cruise signal, though usually that throws a different code.

You need to check the clock spring in the steering column. If the steering wheel controls aren't getting a clean signal to the CPC, it will throw a P0565 and disable the whole cruise circuit for safety.
