Volvo VNL D13 Intermittent U0753 Lost Communication with ABS Module and Dash Flashing

Question

I am having a strange issue where my dash starts lighting up like a Christmas tree and I lose my speedometer while driving. I am pulling a U0753 code along with several other J1939 communication errors. The truck stays in derate until I cycle the key, but it comes back as soon as I hit a bump.

Found the issue at the chassis diagnostic connector bridge near the left-hand frame rail. The harness had rubbed against the fuel tank bracket, chafing the yellow and green CAN wires. I repaired the wires using heat-shrink butt connectors, rerouted the harness with more slack, and applied heavy-duty loom. This cleared the U0753 code and restored full communication with the ABS unit. Total part cost was under $20 for the repair kit.

Verify your voltage at the ABS ECU plug. If the power or ground pins have high resistance, the module will drop off the network sporadically, triggering that U0753 code in the VECU memory.

Check the terminating resistors on the DL1 and DL2 CAN lines. You should see 60 ohms across CAN High and CAN Low with the batteries disconnected; if you see 120 or 0, you have a wiring break or a short.
