2015 Toyota Prius - P0A80 Replace Hybrid Battery Pack

Question

Got the dreaded triangle of death on my 2015 Prius today. The car still drives but the gas engine is running almost constantly and the hybrid battery fan is blowing full blast in the back seat.

I've got 145,000 miles on the clock. I used a Bluetooth OBD dongle and Dr. Prius app, and it shows Block 6 voltage is significantly lower than the others during discharge. Is there any way to save this or am I looking at a full pack replacement?

✅ Confirmed fix: The P0A80 is a hard code for battery degradation. I replaced the entire battery stack with a new nickel-metal hydride unit. While I was in there, I found the bus bars were heavily corroded, which adds resistance. The new pack solved the code and my MPG jumped from 38 back up to 50.

You can try to recondition the pack by cycling the individual NIMH modules, but at 145k miles, if one block is failing, the others aren't far behind. You're better off getting a New OEM pack. Avoid the 'remanufactured' ones if you plan on keeping the car long term, as they usually just swap one bad cell for a mediocre one.
