2015 Fiat 500L - Hard Shifting and P0700 Transmission Code

Question

My 500L started shifting very harshly between second and third gear, and now it has entered a limp mode where it won't go above 30 mph. The check engine light is on and my basic scanner is showing a P0700 code. I'm worried the whole dual-clutch transmission is shot, but I'm hoping it's just a sensor.

The issue was actually a failed Transmission Control Module (TCM) mounting bracket and a corroded connector. I replaced the TCM assembly (Part #68225028AA) and performed a 'Clutch Wing' calibration and proxy alignment using a professional scan tool. The part cost roughly $550 and it required about 2 hours of labor to get the communication back online and the shifts smoothed out.

Check your ground straps near the battery tray and the transmission housing. These Fiats are notorious for bad grounds causing phantom transmission communication errors.

Double check the condition of your battery. If the voltage drops too low during a shift event, the solenoids won't fire correctly and the TCM will throw a P0700.

P0700 is just a general code telling the PCM that the Transmission Control Module has a specific fault. You need a higher-end scanner that can talk to the TCM directly to see the sub-codes, or you are just guessing.
