2007 Lexus ES350 P2714 SLT Solenoid Stuck and Harsh Shifts

Question

My Lexus is starting to flare between the 2nd and 3rd gear shift and sometimes slams into gear when coming to a stop. I hooked up my scanner and pulled code P2714, which indicates a performance issue with the SLT solenoid. The fluid looks a bit dark but doesn't smell completely burnt yet.

The issue was indeed a sticking SLT (Line Pressure) solenoid. I replaced the solenoid with a new OEM unit (Part #35290-45010) which cost about $180. While I had the pan off, I also replaced the filter and cleaned the magnets thoroughly. After performing a memory reset with Techstream to let the TCM relearn the shift points, the car is shifting perfectly smooth again.

Before you tear into the transmission, check your battery voltage and grounds. Lexus electronics are sensitive to low voltage which can cause the TCM to send incorrect duty cycles to the pressure solenoids, mimicking a mechanical failure.

The P2714 code on the U660E transmission is often related to the SLT solenoid, which controls line pressure. If the fluid was dark, there is a chance the solenoid screen or the internal valve body passages are slightly clogged with debris.

You can try to bench test the SLT solenoid with a 9V battery to see if it clicks, but even if it does, it might be sticking under heat. If the solenoid checks out, you might be looking at a worn clutch pack or a valve body replacement.
