2020 Volvo VNL 760 D13 - Intermittent No-Crank, No-Start

Question

Randomly, my 2020 VNL just won't crank. I turn the key, the dash lights up, but I don't hear a click or anything from the starter. If I wait 10 minutes and try again, it might start right up like nothing happened.

It's gotten worse over the last month. I've already replaced the starter and the batteries tested good. I suspect the TECU or something in the I-Shift interlock is preventing the start, but I'm not getting any 'Neutral' light errors on the shifter.

✅ Confirmed fix: This was a corroded 'Mega-Fuse' holder located in the battery box. There is a small 10AWG wire that provides the ignition signal to the ECM.

The wire had corroded inside the heat shrink right at the terminal lug. It was making enough contact to power the dash but not enough to trigger the starter solenoid relay. Re-crimped a new gold-plated terminal and the truck starts perfectly every time now.

Check the battery cutoff switch on the frame rail. Those switches get internal corrosion and will pass voltage but drop current when under load. Try jumping across the switch and see if the problem persists.
