2015 Nissan Rogue - Whining Noise and Sluggish - P17F1

Question

My Rogue has started making a loud whining noise that gets higher-pitched as I go faster. When it gets hot, the car won't accelerate properly, it just revs up and barely moves.

I took it to a local shop and they found code P17F1 (CVT Judder). They said I need a whole new transmission for $5,000. Is there any cheaper fix? The car only has 95,000 miles on it and I've never changed the fluid.

✅ Confirmed fix: Once P17F1 is triggered alongside a loud whine, the internal belt/pulley system has usually sustained surface damage or the high-pressure pump is failing. However, per Nissan NTB15-084, if the belt isn't slipping, you can often save it by replacing the Valve Body and installing an auxiliary external oil cooler to prevent the fluid from overheating, which is what causes the 'limp mode'. In my case, the valve body replacement and cooler kit fixed the whine and restored driveability.

You can try replacing just the valve body in the CVT. Often the solenoids get clogged with debris or the plunger bores wear out, causing the pressure issues that lead to the 'judder' code. It's a lot cheaper than a full swap if the belt isn't slipping yet.
