2020 Hyundai Elantra - Intermittent No Start - No Crank

Question

I have an intermittent no-start on my 2020 Elantra. I'll get in the car, turn the key (standard ignition, not push-to-start), the dash lights up like normal, but when I hit 'Start'—nothing. No click, no crank.

If I wait 5 minutes and try again, it might start right up. It happens about twice a week. I've already had the battery tested at three different places and it's perfect. The dealer couldn't reproduce it so they sent me home.

Next time it happens, try shifting the car into Neutral and starting it. If it starts in Neutral but not Park, your Neutral Safety Switch (Inhibitor Switch) on the transmission is out of adjustment or failing. It's a very common issue on Hyundai/Kia vehicles from 2015-2022.

✅ Confirmed fix: It was a faulty ignition switch (the mechanical/electrical part behind the key cylinder). The 'Start' position contact was burnt internally. I diagnosed it by checking for 12V at the starter solenoid trigger wire when turning the key; I was only getting 4V. Replaced the ignition switch assembly and it hasn't missed a beat in 4 months.
