Volvo D13 Derate - Fault Code 2164 DPF Differential Pressure Bank 2

Question

I have an 80-mile derate warning on my dashboard and the truck is losing power on pulls. The OBD scanner is showing 2164 active, and I can hear a slight whistling sound coming from the passenger side of the exhaust under load. I need to get this back on the road by tomorrow morning for a load.

Found the issue. The differential pressure tube for Bank 2 had a hairline crack right where it meets the exhaust housing, which explains the whistling noise and the 2164 code. I replaced the stainless tube assembly (Part #21401140) and the sensor itself (Part #22202111) for about $380 in parts. After clearing the codes and running a successful service regen using Tech Tool, the derate cleared and the truck is pulling full boost again.

Check for cracks in the DPF face. If you pull the pipe and see black soot downstream of the filter, the DPF is cracked and the sensor is just doing its job reporting the pressure drop failure.

Before replacing parts, check the differential pressure tubes for soot buildup or moisture. If the bank 2 tube is clogged or rusted through, it will give a false reading that prevents the regen from completing.

It is very common for the sensor itself to fail internally on these D13 units. Double check your Delta P sensor part number; there was a revision on these because the older ones weren't moisture resistant.
