2016 Ram 2500 - P2002 Particulate Trap Efficiency Below Threshold - DPF Help

I'm fighting a P2002 on my 2016 Ram. The truck keeps going into active regen way too often, sometimes every 30-50 miles. I've noticed the exhaust tips are starting to get some black soot on them, which I know shouldn't happen with a healthy DPF.

I've checked for intake leaks and replaced the air filter, but the code keeps coming back after I clear it and drive for a bit. My soot load stays high even after a long highway drive. I’m worried the DPF is actually cracked internally or the pressure sensors are lying to the ECM.

✅ Confirmed fix: Inspected the DPF and pulses using a scan tool. Found the DPF substrate had indeed failed and was allowing soot bypass. Replaced the DPF assembly with an OEM unit and performed a service regen and reset the soot load timers. Tailpipes are clean now and regen intervals are back to 400+ miles.

Usually on these 6.7s, a P2002 with soot in the tailpipe is a dead giveaway for a cracked DPF substrate. Even if the pressure sensor is reading okay, if the engine sees a drop in backpressure that doesn't align with its model, it triggers.

You should pull the delta-p sensor hoses and check for moisture or soot in the lines. If you see black dust in those hoses, the filter is toast and needs replacement.
