VW Jetta P0321 Crank Position Sensor Issue - Random Stall and Hard Start

My 2012 Jetta is throwing a P0321 code and keeps stalling while I am sitting at stoplights. Sometimes it takes three or four tries to get it to fire back up, and when it does, the EPC light stays on for a few minutes. It also feels like it has a slight hesitation under heavy acceleration.

The issue was settled by replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor (Part #06H906433F). I had to remove the oil filter to get enough clearance to reach the 4mm Allen bolt holding the sensor into the block. After installing the new Bosch sensor and clearing the codes with VCDS, the car starts instantly and hasn't stalled in over 500 miles. Total cost for the sensor was about $45.

P0321 usually points to the Crankshaft Position Sensor (G28). If the signal is erratic, the ECU doesnt know exactly where the timing is, which causes the stall and the EPC light. Check the wiring harness near the oil filter bracket to make sure it hasn't rubbed through.

Have you checked your RPM needle while cranking? If it stays at zero while the engine is turning over, that G28 sensor is definitely dead. These sensors often fail when they get hot, which explains why it stalls at stoplights but might start up after cooling down for a bit.

It could also be a faulty tone ring on the crankshaft, though that is much less common than the sensor itself failing. Try to get a high-quality Bosch sensor because these engines are very picky about aftermarket electronics.
