Volvo D13 Code 2164 - Bank 2 DPF Pressure High after DPF cleaning

Question

My 2018 VNL with a D13 is throwing code 2164 and staying in a derate. I just had both DPF filters baked and cleaned at a local shop last month and the truck was running fine until yesterday. Now it feels like the turbo is struggling to spool and the soot level meter climbed from 1/5 to 4/5 in under three hours.

Found the issue was a failed Delta P sensor (Part No. 22329418) that had moisture inside the reference port, but the real root cause was a cracked Bank 2 DPF face that had soot bypass. Replaced the DPF with a new unit from Detroit Reman ($2,800) and installed a new sensor. After clearing the ash accumulation data in Tech Tool and performing a 45-minute parked regen, the pressure differential dropped to 0.1 psi at idle and the code stayed inactive.

I had this on a Mack recently and it turned out to be the 7th injector (hydrocarbon injector) leaking. It was soaking the face of the DPF in fuel, which the sensor interpreted as a restriction because the air couldn't flow through the liquid-clogged face effectively.

Check the Bank 2 Delta P sensor tubes carefully for any pinhole leaks or heavy carbon buildup at the port on the canister. If the sensor is seeing a wide discrepancy between the actual backpressure and what the ECM expects based on flow, it will trigger 2164 immediately.

It is possible the shop didn't get the Bank 2 filter completely clear or the internal substrate has cracked. You should run a backpressure test with a manual gauge to see if the sensor readings match the physical pressure at the tap.
