2018 Peterbilt 579 Intermittent ABS Message and U0410 Code

Question

I am getting a recurring 'ABS Fault' message on the داشboard and my traction control light stays on. It seems to happen more frequently when I'm bobtailing or hitting rough patches on the highway. I hooked up my Jaltest and it is pulling a U0410:00 code for invalid data received from the Brake Control Module.

Found the issue after opening the harness near the left-hand front spring hanger. The J1939 twisted pair (Yellow and Green wires) had rubbed through the insulation against a zip-tie anchor. I cut out the bad section, used 18-gauge shielded wire with heat-shrink butt connectors to repair the link, and re-loomed it with high-temp convoluted tubing. Cleared the U0410 code and the ABS light has stayed off for three trips now.

If you don't find any wiring issues, check the connector pins at the Bendix EC-80 module. Look for green corrosion or pushed-back pins. A voltage drop on the power supply pin to the ABS module can also trigger invalid data codes even if the module is still communicating.

U0410 usually means the Engine Control Module or the Central Gateway is getting messy data from the ABS module. Check the resistance on your J1939 backbone at the diagnostic port; you should see 60 ohms with the batteries disconnected.

Inspect the wiring harness where it runs along the frame rail near the steer gear box. These 579s are notorious for the harness rubbing through the loom and grounding out the CAN High or Low wires against the frame.
