Intermittent ABS Active Light - Bendix EC-60 Unit Code 25

Question

I have an active ABS light on my dashboard that comes and goes whenever I hit a bump. Using the dash blink codes, I am pulling a Code 25 which I believe points to a sensor issue on the steer axle. The truck feels okay under normal braking but the traction control is cutting out too.

The issue was a frayed wire inside the corrugated loom about 10 inches back from the left front sensor connector. The constant steering movement caused the wire to break internally while the insulation looked fine. I replaced the sensor with a Genuine Bendix 801546 sensor kit and installed a new stainless steel tension clip. Total cost was about $85 for the part and 1 hour of labor; the ABS light cleared immediately after a short test drive above 15 mph.

Look closely at the tooth wheel (tone ring) for any chipped or missing teeth. If you recently had a wheel seal done, the shop might have accidentally nicked the ring with a pry bar.

Code 25 specifically indicates an issue with the Left Steer Axle wheel speed sensor. Check your air gap first; if the sensor is more than 0.015 inches away from the tone ring, it will drop signal at low speeds.

You should check the resistance of the sensor at the ECU connector. It should be between 1300 and 1900 ohms. If you are getting an open circuit while wiggling the harness, you have a broken wire in the loom.
