Freightliner Cascadia - SPN 2791 FMI 14 EGR Valve Motion/Learning Fault

Question

My 2018 Cascadia is derating and throwing a SPN 2791 FMI 14 code regarding the EGR valve. I can hear the motor clicking when I cycle the key, but it doesn't seem to complete its sweep. The truck is stuck in a 25% power derate and I can't clear the active fault with my tablet.

The issue was a failed EGR Valve Actuator (Part #EA4711500794). I found the internal clock spring had snapped, preventing the valve from returning to the home position during the initialization sweep. Replaced the actuator assembly, performed the 'EGR Valve Calibration' routine using DiagnosticLink 8.15, and the code went from Active to Inactive immediately. Total part cost was $640 and took about 2 hours to swap and calibrate.

FMI 14 usually points to a software calibration issue or a physical obstruction. Pull the hot pipe and check for heavy soot buildup preventing the valve from seating fully.

Check the power and ground at the EGR connector. Sometimes the vibration on the DD15 harness causes a break about 6 inches back from the plug. Use a load light, not just a multimeter.
