2018 Freightliner Cascadia DD15 - U0572 CAN Communication Issue with TPMS Node

Question

My dash is throwing a generic data link warning and I am pulling U0572 from the CPC. The truck runs fine, but I lost my tire pressure monitoring display on the instrument cluster. It started flickering yesterday and now it is permanently offline.

Found the issue. The TPMS receiver module (Part # A0009055403) had a cracked housing allowing moisture into the circuit board. I replaced the module and had to clean the pins on the vehicle side of the harness with contact cleaner. Once I installed the new unit and cleared the codes with DiagnosticLink, the U0572 disappeared and my pressures populated on the dash. Total cost for the module was about $240.

U0572 usually points to invalid data received from the Tire Pressure Monitor internal module. Check the backbone of the J1939 to make sure you don't have a high resistance issue between the TPMS ECU and the Central Powertrain Controller.

I had this same code last month. It turned out to be a chaffed wire in the harness right near the transmission crossmember where the TPMS loom joins the main backbone. Use a multimeter to check for 60 ohms across the data link with the batteries disconnected.

On these Cascadias, the TPMS module is often mounted on the frame rail or behind the fairing where it gets hit with road spray. Inspect the connector for green corrosion which will bridge the CAN High and CAN Low pins.
