Chevrolet Silverado B1001-00 Option Configuration Error after SDM replacement

Question

I recently replaced the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module on my truck after a minor collision that didn't fire the bags but locked the old unit. Now I have a permanent AIRBAG light on and my scan tool is pulling a B1001 code. The SRS system won't clear even though all impact sensors and squibs have been checked.

The issue was resolved by performing a 'Setup and Configuration' via GM SPS2 (Service Programming System) using a MDI2 interface. Even though the module was new, it requires a specialized handshake to sync the BCM's ID and the SDM's internal VIN. I had to pay for a 2-year VIN subscription on ACDelcoTDS which was about $45, then ran the 'Setup New SDM' function which successfully wrote the VIN and cleared the B1001 code. Total time was roughly 20 minutes once the laptop was connected.

Make sure the SPS programming was completed correctly. Sometimes the 'Setup New SDM' procedure in the scan tool fails at the very end because of low battery voltage, causing the configuration to remain incomplete.

If you used a used module, it is likely locked to the donor vehicle. GM's Global A electrical architecture makes it very difficult to swap modules like these without specialized tools to rewrite the EEPROM or the VIN data.

A B1001 usually means the VIN stored in the SDM does not match the VIN reported by the BCM over the serial data bus. You need to verify if the module you bought was brand new or salvaged from another truck.
