2020 Subaru Forester - P000A Intake Camshaft Position Slow Response

Question

My 2020 Forester with 45k miles just popped a P000A code. The car idles rough at stoplights and doesn't seem to have the 'pep' it used to. It recently had an oil change at a quick-lube shop.

I’m seeing some forums say this is a huge engine issue, while others say it's just a sensor. I'm hoping it's something simple since the car is relatively new.

Subaru has a service bulletin for this. The Oil Control Solenoids (OCV) on the FB engines are very sensitive to oil contaminants or the wrong viscosity. Since you just had a quick-lube oil change, there's a chance they used the wrong oil or some debris got lodged in the OCV screen.

✅ Confirmed fix: Diagnosed as a faulty Camshaft Oil Control Valve on Bank 1. These solenoids can fail internally or get sticky. Replaced the solenoid with the updated 'Type B' version from the dealership and performed an oil flush with OEM 0W-20 filter. The slow response code cleared and has stayed off for 2,000 miles.
