2013 Lexus RX350 P0447 Hard Code - EVAP Vent Control Circuit Open

Question

I have a solid CEL on my dash and the scanner keeps pulling P0447 every time I clear it. The car runs fine but I can't pass state inspection with the emission monitor incomplete. I am worried about whether I need a whole new charcoal canister or just a harness repair.

The issue was a corroded pin inside the electrical connector for the Vapor Canister Vent Solenoid (VSV). I found that moisture had wicked into the plug, causing the green crusty corrosion that broke the circuit. I replaced the charcoal canister assembly (Part #77740-0E050) because the valve is integrated on this model, and spliced in a new pigtail connector. Total parts cost was about $380 and the code cleared instantly after the first drive cycle.

Make sure to check the 10A ENG MULTI fuse in the engine bay junction block. If that fuse is blown, you'll lose power to the VSV and trigger an open circuit code immediately.

Check the wiring harness near the rear subframe. These Lexus models are known for rodents chewing on the soy-based wire insulation right at the canister connector.

You can test the solenoid manually by applying 12v to the pins. If you don't hear a distinct click, the internal coil in the vent valve has failed open.
