2011 Honda CR-V - P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire and Chauffeur Shudder

Question

At a red light, the car feels like it's trying to die. If I hit the gas, the Check Engine Light flashes until I get up to speed. Scanner shows Cylinder 2 Misfire. I'm also noticing the oil level is consistently low every time I check it, maybe 2 quarts down every 3k miles.

I've already thrown a new coil and plug at it, which didn't help. I'm worried about the piston ring issues I've read about on these K-series engines from this era. Is there anything else I can check before assuming the bottom end is toasted?

✅ Confirmed fix: Performed a valve adjustment. Honda's K24 engines are notorious for the exhaust valves tightening up over time. Cylinder 2 exhaust valves had zero lash, preventing them from seating fully when hot, causing the misfire. Adjusted all intake and exhaust valves to middle-spec. The misfire is gone and the idle is smooth. Note: Still keep an eye on oil consumption as that's a separate issue with the rings on '10-'11 models.

You need to do a compression test followed by a leak-down test. If Cylinder 2 is significantly lower than the others, squirt a little oil in the plug hole and re-test. If the pressure jumps up, your rings are the culprit. These engines had a TSB for sticking oil rings causing carbon buildup and misfires.
