2013 Lexus RX 350 - P2714 and Harsh Shift into 3rd Gear

My Lexus has been acting up lately, specifically when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear where it feels like it's slipping and then slams into gear. The check engine light came on yesterday along with the VSC warning on the dash. I am worried the transmission is toast because it also feels weird when coming to a complete stop.

The issue was fixed by replacing the SLT Solenoid (Part # 35290-34010). Upon removing the transmission pan, the fluid was somewhat dark but the magnets were clean. I replaced the SLT solenoid and the transmission filter, then performed a full fluid exchange with 12 quarts of Toyota WS. After clearing the codes and performing the 'Transmission Compensation Code' registration via Techstream, it shifts like new again. Total cost was about $380 in parts and 3 hours of labor.

Before you drop the pan, try performing a memory reset on the TCM using a Techstream tool. Sometimes the adaptive learning values get skewed and caused these harsh shifts, though usually, a solenoid performance code indicates a physical blockage or electrical failure.

P2714 is for the SLT solenoid which controls line pressure. If the fluid was dark or smells burnt, you might have internal clutch wear, but definitely check the wiring harness at the transmission case first for any corrosion or pins that have backed out.

You should drop the transmission pan and inspect the magnets. If there is a lot of silver metallic debris, the U151/U250 series transmissions are known for premature bearing wear that can clog the solenoids.
