2018 Freightliner Cascadia U0181 Communication Error causing Headlight Flicker

Question

I have been getting a recurring U0181 code on my 2018 Cascadia and now the headlights are starting to flicker or stay pointed down during night driving. The dash display also says Headlamp Leveling System Malfunction every time I hit a bridge joint. It seems like a CAN bus issue but I'm not sure where the module is even located on this model.

The issue was a corroded pin in the 21-pin bulkhead connector at the firewall which interrupted the CAN line to the leveling module. I found green crusties on pin 14 and pin 15; after cleaning them with electrical contact cleaner and applying some Dielectric grease, the U0181 cleared immediately. Total cost was about $12 for the cleaner and grease, plus three hours of probing the harness.

Check the J1939 backbone resistor at the end of the frame rail. If the resistance across pins C and D is not 60 ohms with the batteries disconnected, you have a physical wiring issue in the datalink.
