2018 Chevy Traverse P2400 EVAP Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit Open

Question

My check engine light popped up yesterday and I scanned it to find P2400. The car seems to drive fine, but I can't clear the code and keep it off. I’m worried about passing my upcoming emissions inspection with the MIL on.

The issue turned out to be a broken signal wire about 6 inches back from the Leak Detection Pump connector. The insulation had cracked and the copper wire corroded through completely. I cut out the bad section, soldered in a new length of 18ga wire, and sealed it with Marine-grade heat shrink. After clearing the code and performing a service bay EVAP test with my scan tool, the system passed and the light stayed off. Total cost was about five dollars for the wire and solder.

Check the EVAP canister area for any signs of physical damage or a loose ground wire. Sometimes the harness rubs against the fuel tank strap and shorts out.

You should check the wiring harness near the rear subframe. These models are known for salt and debris getting into the connector for the leak detection pump, leading to corrosion and broken pins.

Before replacing the pump, use a multimeter to check for 12V at the harness connector with the key on. If you have power but the code won't clear, the internal solenoid in the pump might have failed open.
