2013 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec - P0355 Misfire and Ignition Coil Failure

My 2013 Genesis has started bucking heavily under load and the check engine light is flashing. It feels like a dead cylinder and the idle is extremely rough when stopped in gear. I am getting a persistent P0355 code along with some random misfire codes on bank 2.

The issue was a harness rub-through near the fuel rail bracket for cylinder 5. The insulation had worn away, causing the signal wire to ground out intermittently. I repaired the wire using a heat-shrink solder sleeve and re-wrapped the sub-harness with Tesa high-heat tape. I also replaced the coil with a genuine Denso unit (Part #27300-3F100) just to be safe. Total repair cost was about $95 for the coil and shop supplies, and it has been running smooth for 500 miles.

Since the code didn't move when you swapped coils, you need to look at the wiring harness. Check the connector for cylinder 5 specifically; those heat shields on the Tau V8 can sometimes trap heat and make the plastic pigtails brittle and prone to pin drag issues.

Check your grounds at the back of the cylinder head. If the ground loop for that bank is corroded, it can cause primary circuit faults. Also, verify you have 12V at the center pin of the connector with the key on.

It could be an ECU driver failing, but that is rare on these Hyundais. Usually, P0350-P0358 codes on this platform are caused by a break in the signal wire between the coil and the PCM. Use a multimeter to check continuity on the trigger wire.
