2015 Infiniti QX60 P2422 Code - EVAP Vent Valve Stuck Closed

Question

My Service Engine Soon light popped up yesterday and I scanned it to find code P2422. I am also having a hard time filling up at the gas station because the pump keeps clicking off every few seconds. There are no other codes present and the car seems to drive fine otherwise.

The issue was the EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve located on the charcoal canister. I removed the valve and found it was seized with road grit. I replaced it with a new Nissan/Infiniti Genuine part (21481-3JA0E) which cost about $110. After installation, I cleared the code and the gas station pump no longer clicks off. Make sure to clean the O-ring seat before installing the new one to prevent a P0442 small leak code later.

This is almost always a physical blockage in the vent line or a failed solenoid. Check the vent hose that leads from the canister to the frame; spiders love to build nests in there which blocks the airflow.

You should try to command the vent valve open and closed using a bi-directional scan tool if you have access to one. If you hear it clicking but air still won't pass through, the valve is definitely the culprit.

Make sure your charcoal canister hasn't ruptured internally. If you have a habit of topping off the gas tank, raw fuel can get into the canister and send charcoal pellets into the lines, which jams the vent valve shut.
