2012 Audi A4 2.0T P0089 Fuel Pressure Performance Issues

Question

My A4 is throwing a P0089 code and has been stumbling under heavy acceleration. It feels like the car is starving for fuel above 3,500 RPM but idles fine most of the time. The check engine light is intermittent but currently stays on.

The issue was the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) itself, part number 06H127025Q. I pulled the pump and found the internal spring had weakened. I replaced the HPFP along with a new cam follower (06E109309S) and the P0089 code cleared. The car now pulls hard to redline without any fuel cut or stumbling. Total cost for OEM parts was about $340 and took 45 minutes to install.

Log your fuel pressure sets using VCDS. Look at Group 106 for the electric pump duty cycle and Group 103 for the actual vs specified rail pressure to see if the deviation happens at high or low load.

You need to check the high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) follower. These are known to wear through on the 2.0T engines and can cause erratic pressure readings and eventually damage the camshaft lobe.

Check the Low Pressure Fuel Sensor (G410) located on the high pressure pump. If it's sending the wrong signal to the ECU, the PWM signal to the pump will be off, causing the P0089 performance code.
