2017 Honda Civic - AC Blowing Warm on Passenger Side

Question

My 2017 Civic's AC is failing. The driver side air is 'cool' but definitely not cold, and the passenger side vents are blowing completely ambient temperature air. It's not a dual-zone system, so there shouldn't be a temperature difference between the sides.

I hear the compressor clicking on and off quite frequently—maybe every 10 seconds. I tried one of those DIY recharge cans from the auto parts store, but the gauge on the can went into the red zone immediately, so I stopped. Is this a blend door problem?

It sounds like a blend door actuator. The actuator that controls the temp mix is likely stripped. Even if it's not dual-zone, many modern HVAC boxes are split internally, and a failing door can cause side-to-side temperature variations. Try a recalibration through the climate control button sequence.

✅ Confirmed fix: You have a leaking AC condenser. Honda actually extended the warranty on these (Service Bulletin 19-091) because the condensers were manufactured with a defect that causes tiny pinhole leaks.

When the refrigerant gets low, the evaporator doesn't get fully cold. Because the air for the driver's side passes through the part of the evaporator that still has a little liquid refrigerant, it feels cooler, while the passenger side gets nothing. The compressor is 'short cycling' because the pressure is too low. The dealer replaced my condenser for free under the extended warranty.
