Fiat 500 Mileage Flashing and U1733 Error Code

Question

My 2013 Fiat 500 Sport has started flashing the odometer display every time I drive it. Along with the blinking mileage, my steering wheel controls for the phone and Bluetooth have completely stopped responding. I scanned it with my OBD tool and it is showing a persistent U1733 code for 'Lost Communication with Convergency Node'.

The issue was a completely failed Blue&Me module located behind the passenger side dashboard plastics. I sourced a matching used module (Part No. 51944597) for $120. After installation, the odometer was still flashing, so I had to use MultiECUScan and an ELM327 interface to run a 'PROXI Alignment Procedure'. This synced the new module to the BCM, the flashing stopped, and my phone controls now work perfectly.

These Blue&Me modules are notorious for internal hardware failure, especially if the cabin gets very hot. If you can't see the module on the CAN-tree during a network test, the hardware itself is likely fried and won't respond to any programming or resets.

A flashing odometer on a Fiat or Chrysler product almost always indicates a CAN-bus configuration mismatch. The Body Control Module (BCM) is expecting to hear from the Bluetooth module (Convergence Node/Blue&Me) and isn't getting a heartbeat signal.

Check the fuse for the Hands-Free Module first. If the module has no power, the BCM will log U1733. If the fuse is good, you might need to perform a Proximity Alignment using a high-end scan tool like MultiECUScan to relearn the modules on the network.
